Rita Risser Chai replies:
If your company has a policy that employees should be treated with respect, this clearly violates that policy. However, if the employer only did this once, it is probably not illegal sexual harassment. In order to be illegal, harassment must be severe. This is usually defined as almost constant verbal abuse. This might be an indication that your employer is discriminating against you in other ways, such as unequal pay. If so, you may have a claim for discrimination. It’s a good idea for you to consult with an attorney to explore your options. Good luck.
